With its 11 settlements and more of 3.000 permanent inhabitants, the island of Pašman is one of the most attractive islands for excellent holiday and qualitative life. The island of Pašman extends on the southwest part of count of Zadar. The sea belt of the island is on the board of Zadar-Knin count. The territory of the island administratively is divided in 2 districts , Pašman and Tkon. District pašman, with 48,73 km2 and 9 villages constitues the most part of the island. , while district Tkon, with 14,30 km2 and 2 villages, Tkon and Ugrinić is on smaller part of the island. Pašman have always been of big importance because of wide agricultural area and relatively favourable maritime position.Since the begining of the eighties last century, basic economical occupation was agriculture, stock-breeding, and navigation.With the development of the island, at the end of last century the possibilities for tourism were made, and today tourism and fishery are the main economical occupations. The island of beautiful olive trees, old traditional stone cottages, sand beach, the island encircled by the clearest sea according to last researches, is as created for pleasant holiday. Good car-ferry linkage of less than 15 minutes from Biograd to Tkon , with permanent departures in season, makes this island easily accessible , and because of that there is a permanent growth in number of visitors and inhabitants The most important and the most developed village on the island is Tkon, which develops more rapidly than other places on the island because of car ferry port and great fluctuation of people and vehicles.
Pašman is the second village and the administrative centre of the district Pašman. In last years there is seen the development of turism, but there are no used all resources existed. Mrljane, in the past part of village Neviđane, since the middle of eighties in 20th. Cent. . begins its growth and today Mrljane is place of excellent navigators, and the numerous private shpicrafts , with the largest beach and touristic capacities. Except these 3 villages, on the island there exist Ugrinić, Kraj, Mali Pašman, barotul, Neviđane, Dobropoljana, Banj and Ždrelac and weekend settlement Gladuša. The forst mention of the island we meet in the work of Constantin Porfirogenet „De administrando Imperio“ with name Takav, the most probably Tkon.In charter from 990. prior Maius from Zadar donates to benedictian convent St Grisogono in Zadar churche St, Michael „sitam in insula Postimana“ ie. On the island Pašman. Libellus Policorion in 11.cent. mentions insula sancti Johannis Eungaliste according to name of Biograd's bendectian abbey which had had properties on island. The charters from 1067. mention older name of the island Flaveico. Middle age sources (13. cent.)Pašman name as insula Bagno, insula Dobropolana or insula sancti Daminai ( monaster on the hill Čokovac near village Pašman. The island of Pašman and the island Ugljan are connected by bridge and car ferry line with Biograd. Pašman is 12. island of size and 13, of number of inhabitants in Croatia. The biggest length is 21,35 km. And widht is 4,27 km. The surface of the island is 63,03 km2 , and without belonging little islands 60,11 km2. Lenth of litoral is 93,1 km2. Southwest side of the coast is sheer and rocky one, while southeast side is milder and sandy one. Sand cliffs on the territory of village Tkon create interesting landscape. IN pašman channel there are some little islands:Garmenjak, Školjić, Komornik, Muntan, Veli Dužac, Čavatul, Vela Bisaga, Mala Bisaga, Sv. Katarina. On southwest side it is encircled with Middle channel which is the border of Kornati islands and Dugi otok, with lot of little islands: Gnalić, Žižanj, Ošljak, Kamenčić, Vela Kotula, Mala Kotula, Runjava Kotula, Gangaro, Košara, Maslinjak and Hrid Galiolica. The highest mountain peak is V. Bokolj, 272 m. |
